Reap the Benefits of Temporary Anchorage Devices in Brooklyn
As the world around us grows larger with each day, one may have ambitions to travel, and while it may be too big an undertaking to learn a new language, one thing remains constant: smiling is universal. A smile can give way to any number of opportunities, and opens the first door in allowing positivity into one’s life. With just a quick glance of the teeth, the initial invitation is sent out for happiness, friendliness, and openness to others. For some of us, however, they feel more marked by their crooked teeth and imperfections than of an endearing smile. They turn to help to correct this, and in a short time can achieve a smile with unlimited potential through skillful treatment at Brooklyn Orthodontics.
The moving and alignment of the teeth to create a perfect smile is no easy task. There are several ways in which orthodontists go about this process. At Brooklyn Orthodontics while in the care of Dr. Mohamed AlJanabi, patients will be informed as to what types of techniques are going to work best in each individual case. In addition to braces, sometimes other measures are put in place to speed up tooth movement: one of them is headgear, the other, an invisible option, is a temporary anchorage device, or TAD.
Approved by the FDA in 2005, A TAD is a screw made of bio-compatible titanium alloy. They are very small, typically only 1.5 to 2 mm in diameter. TADs are also commonly referred to as mini-screws, mini-implants or micro-implants. The temporary anchorage device is placed into the gum and jawbone in some orthodontic cases to help achieve faster tooth movement with more comfort and efficiency. Before the invention of TADs, moving certain teeth in more difficult cases could only be achieved through headgear or surgery, so this device has proved very useful in the advancement of orthodontics, significantly cutting down on the patient’s discomfort and saving them a lot of time in the chair.
Upon careful insertion with little discomfort (no more than a feeling of pressure, lasting only a few minutes), the TAD stays in for the duration of your orthodontic treatment, and eliminates the need for surgery or extractions in many cases. After the TAD is placed, maintenance is rather low, and only practical. Patients are instructed to be mindful of keeping their TAD clean, simply through brushing their teeth at least three times a day, and are also provided with an antimicrobial mouthwash to use. The TAD is then removed when it is no longer needed to straighten your teeth. The removal process is comfortable and quick, only taking only a few minutes.
