Invisalign at Brooklyn Orthodontics
If you want to straighten your smile without wearing traditional braces, Brooklyn Orthodontics has an option for you. As a certified Invisalign provider, Dr. AlJanabi and his experienced staff offer eligible patients a fresh approach to straightening their teeth.
Instead of traditional dental braces that adhere to the teeth, Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners to gently move your teeth into the correct position. The aligners fit snugly and comfortably over your teeth and are virtually undetectable, no one will even realize you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment.
Aligners like Invisalign are a great option for orthodontic treatment, but they aren’t for everyone. The friendly Brooklyn Orthodontics staff will help you determine if Invisalign is the best way for you to achieve a stunning smile!
How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign uses a series of removable aligners to imperceptibly modify your smile. Dr. AlJanabi uses 3-D computer imaging technology to create your entire treatment plan. The system allows Dr. AlJanabi to generate time-lapsed, visual images of your teeth as they move from their initial position to the final result. Then, he will make Invisalign aligners specifically for your mouth that will achieve the computer-simulated result. You’ll wear each set for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush and floss.
Each time you replace the aligner with a new one, your teeth will move a little until they reach the desired positions. You’ll visit the Brooklyn Orthodontics clinic every six weeks to ensure the treatment is progressing correctly. Most Invisalign patients undergo treatment for nine-to-15 months, wearing between 18 and 30 sets of aligners. However, your treatment may vary slightly, depending on your needs and goals.
Benefits of Invisalign
If you wear traditional braces during your orthodontic treatment, you’ll have to avoid hard, sticky or crunchy foods. Since the Invisalign appliances are removed when you eat, you can still enjoy the popcorn and jelly beans you love! With no orthodontic appliances attached to your teeth, keeping your gums healthy and breath fresh with regular brushing flossing is a cinch with Invisalign.
The clear plastic aligners are quite comfortable and don’t cause sores or abrasions in your mouth. And, you usually spend less time in the dental chair at the Brooklyn Orthodontics office. The six-week checkups are intended for Dr. AlJanabi to get a peek at your progress and quickly get you back to your daily routine.
You’ll get to see what the outcome of your orthodontic treatment with Invisalign will look like. The 3D imaging system will allow Dr. AlJanabi to show you how straight your teeth will look when the treatment is complete.
Conditions Invisalign Treats
Invisalign helps to correct cosmetic imperfections, but patients with bite problems can also benefit from invisalign technology. That’s because technological advances now allow Invisalign patients to use elastics to effectively correct more severe bite issues.
Invisalign provides effective orthodontic treatment for these irregularities:
Crowding
A lack of room in your jaw for all your teeth will lead to crowded teeth. Left untreated, you will develop crooked teeth. Overcrowding can result in plaque accumulation, tooth decay and gum disease.
Overbite
This condition occurs when the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth and is caused by your family history, bad oral habits or overdevelopment of the bone that supports the teeth. Overbites can cause problems with your gums, wear on your lower teeth and painful jaw problems.
Underbite
An underbite occurs if the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth. The condition can be caused when upper teeth are missing or overgrowth of the upper or lower jaws occurs. Underbites keep the front teeth and molars from functioning normally and cause tooth wear. You can also experience painful jaw and joint problems.
Open Bite
An open bite happens if the teeth are unable to physically touch the opposing teeth when you bite down. Genetic abnormalities most often cause open bites, but excessive thumb sucking can also be a factor. This condition can cause painful chewing or speech impediments. It can also lead to TMJ.
Crossbite
When both the upper and lower jaws are misaligned, a crossbite occurs. It causes one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth, and can happen on both the front and the sides of the mouth. Crossbites cause wear of the teeth, gum disease and bone loss.
