How to Get Through Your First Week with Invisalign

Invisalign Bay Ridge

One of the most common orthodontic treatment choices that Dr. Al-janabi provides for both adults and teenagers is Invisalign. Invisalign is a clear aligner that does not use brackets or wires to move teeth into their correct position. If you are curious about what to expect your first week with the Invisalign treatment process near Bay Ridge, we have outlined what the first week would look like for you.

Discomfort

During your first week with Invisalign in Bay Ridge, you will experience some slight discomfort that can be treated with over-the-counter pain relievers. Since the aligners are designed to gently shift your teeth, the pressure needed to accomplish this is the discomfort you are feeling. After the first week, the discomfort usually subsides as you get more used to the aligners.

Proper Insertion and Removal

Properly inserting and removing the aligners is one of the bigger challenges that we see our patients having when they first get Invisalign. It won’t be long until this is second nature, but to get to that step you first need to know how to do it correctly.

Insertion

First, you will push the tray over the front of your teeth and then, applying equal pressure, push on the back part of the trays to snap over your molars. It is important that they are snapped on at the same time so that the aligner does not break.

Removal

To remove them, start on the side of your mouth and pull the tray away from your molars. Once it is completely removed from your molars, you should be able to easily remove it.

Cleaning

Start a cleaning routine for your aligners the first night that you have them. Gently brush your Invisalign trays whenever you brush or floss your teeth. Keeping your aligners clean will reduce the risk of staining your teeth if you “accidentally” forget to remove them while you are drinking something.
