What Do Your Braces Say About You? Picking the Best Bands for Your Braces
The long term results of traditional braces are worth the wait, but between painful adjustments, food limitations, and broken brackets they can sometimes be a total bummer. Traditional braces use brackets and wires to gently apply pressure to the teeth and move them into the correct position. In addition to brackets and wires, elastics–those tiny colorful rubber bands–are used to apply additional pressure to the teeth. Dr. AlJanabi at Brooklyn Orthodontics will replace your rubber bands at every visit depending on the individual needs of your teeth.
While these bands serve a very important orthodontic purpose, they also offer the opportunity to have a little fun with your braces! We offer a variety of colorful rubber band options, and our patients enjoy customizing their braces at each monthly visit. Some of our Brooklyn-area patients spend the whole month deliberating which color they will select next!
The kind of color schemes you choose allow you to demonstrate your individuality and your color confidence. What do your color choices say about you?
You’ve got spirit!
Many of our patients elect to wear school colors to demonstrate their loyalty to their school and match their game day uniforms. Others elect to wear the colors of their favorite professional teams. Blue, white and orange call out to the Mets and the Knicks, while red and blue say hey to the New York Giants. Many of our patients like to sport the red, white and blue during the Olympics or even rep other countries flags in a sign international support!
You can’t wait for _______!
A common request is to have bands that match the color of upcoming holidays. For instance, our patients love to sport black and orange for Halloween, or a mixture of neons for an upcoming Color Run. No matter what the colors, they say you are super excited about a special event that is right around the corner.
You are a fashionista.
Some of our more fashion savvy patients like to pick colors that match their favorite designer labels. Some will opt for a Tiffany blue or a Burberry-ish blend of black, red, and brown. Others plan their wardrobes carefully and pick colors that will tastefully complement their newest thrift store grabs. Designer types can bring in swatches to choose the bands closest to the complementary Pantone colors they like.
You’ve got personality.
Colors that you choose can speak for you. You don’t even have to say a word. A color like red conotes power and strength. Whereas a color like blue represents calm. Greens call back to nature, but are also the color of money! Pink is a sweet and romantic tone, and purple is the traditional color of royalty. Choosing just one color to represent your personality can say a lot, or you might choose a rainbow to reflect your diverse interests.
Sleek and Sophisticated
Other patients opt for a more subdued approach. We offer plenty of black, gray, and clear options for patients who want their braces to appear sleek and monochrome.
Rubberband colors offer our braces the patients the opportunity to have fun with their treatment and demonstrate individuality. Remember that rubber bands are replaced every five to seven weeks, so if you get tired of one look the opportunity to freshen up your look is right around the corner.
