Clear Images Allow the Best Results – Orthodontist Staten Island and Brooklyn
How does our office’s state-of-the-art digital pan-ceph X-ray technology help to create the best results for your smile? – orthodontist Staten Island and Brooklyn
One of the most important parts of orthodontic treatment is the imaging of the mouth. In order to create the best results for your smile, your orthodontist needs clear and accurate images of your teeth and jaw bones. This allows Dr. AlJanabi to determine what treatment would work best to move the teeth into their desired positions. Whether you have braces or Invisalign, it all starts with getting the best images of your mouth. Our state-of-the-art digital pan-ceph X-ray technology allows this to happen.
What is a pan-ceph X-ray?
“Pan-ceph” stands for panoramic and cephalometric. A panoramic X-ray shows the entire upper and lower jaw, along with the teeth and their roots. This type of X-ray allows an orthodontist to visualize the entire mouth with only one image, which means a lower radiation dose for the patient (compared to taking many different images inside of the mouth, which was the previous standard) and allows for better treatment planning.
A cephalometric X-ray allows the orthodontist to compare the relationships of various bones and the teeth. It’s taken from the side, and the orthodontist can use it to measure the sizes of various bones and determine what the impact of various treatment plans would be on the patient’s facial profile and bite. It can also allow the orthodontist to predict the future growth pattern of the jaw bones of a child or younger teen (who has not yet finished growing).
A pan-ceph X-ray machine is able to take both panoramic and cephalometric images. Since both of these are needed for orthodontic treatment planning, the ability to take both types of images with one machine is very convenient.
Digital X-rays
Our state-of-the-art pan-ceph machine is a digital X-ray device, meaning that it doesn’t require film, but registers the images digitally on detectors. This results in the lowest possible radiation dose to the patient. It also allows the orthodontist to manipulate the images digitally, such as zooming in and altering the brightness of the image, to get all of the information needed from the X-rays, and makes storage and retrieval of images very easy.
Your orthodontic treatment plan
Dr. AlJanabi will create your individualized orthodontic treatment plan based on the X-ray images, along with his examination of you, your medical and dental history, and your goals for your treatment.
